radiationCystitis - noninfectious
Radiation therapy. Over the last 2 months, he has been passing blood
clotsBlood clots and was recently hospitalized for severe abdominal pains. A
cystoscopy revealed 3 malignant polyups, which were removed. Shortly after the procedure, he had excruciating pain and was unable to uriniate. A catheter was inserted (with difficulty) and more blood and urine flowed. The catheter remained in for several days and was removed prior to discharge. Within 8 hours he was back in the ER with pain and inability to urinate. A catheter was inserted and it remained in for a week. Once removed, within 8 hours he was back in the ER again. A catheter was again inserted and will remain in place for 2 weeks. During this time he also received CIPRO for a urinary tract infection and is also taking Flomax. Multipe tests were done - bowels are fine, colon is fine, kidney stone was found, intestines are fine. His doctor thinks that dad's prostate may be enlarged blocking his urination flow and mentioned surgery to "scrape" the prostate after the 2 wk catheter/Flomax/Cipro is done and if he still cannot urinate and still has burning and pain. He also has been constipated and has trouble moving his bowels, with abdominal pains. What is your opinion? He is becoming very agitated and depressed that he cannot find relief.
