Discolored Semen

by Dan__0, Jun 12, 1998 12:00AM
I am 37 and have been on kidney dialysis for 18 years. I recently had
gall bladder removed due to stones. Now two weeks after surgery I have noticed
that my ejacualte after masterbation (masturbation) is dark, almost black. Could this be just
residule blood from surgery or something more serious?
  Thank You,
  Daniel

Dear Daniel,
Change in the color or consistency in the ejaculate is not a topic currently being addressed by this forum.  Archived information on the forum can be reviewed.  You may search under keywords "hematospermia", "semen", or "ejaculate".
The evaluation for the change you describe includes a medical history, a physical examination including a digital rectal examination, a urinanalysis, PSA blood test, and often a urine cytology.
This information is provided for general medical educational purposes only. Please consult your physician for diagnostic and treatment options pertaining to your specific medical condition. More individualized care is available at the Henry Ford Hospital and its satellites (1 800 653-6568).
Sincerely,
HFHS M.D.-CK
