Do I have prostatitis?

by stranger747, May 12, 2007 12:00AM
Not sure what I have is prostatitis. I am 44 years old man. About two months ago I tested positive for Chlamydah. I was treated with 1 dose of Azithromycin and one short for ghonoria. 3 weeks later I was still having burning sensation in my urethera and in my rectum. No discharge. Never Swallown testicles. Even at the time of discovery dischage was minimum. I visited an urologist who thought that the dose I received was not enough and gave me 10 days of doxicycline. Finished doxicycline, waited two weeks still symptoms exist. He then prescribed me 10 days of Levaquin to cleanup any bacteria if exist in prostate. Completed the prescription and did not help at all. Now he gave me 10 days of Phenazopyridine to ease the pain in urethera. My complain was to him about the rectal pain not so much of pain in urethera. Anyway, Phenazopyridine is not helping either. For some reason he rulled out prostatitis but I don't know why. He has not done any exam related to prostate. He thought it was too early for me. I am not even sure if rectal burning has anything to do with prostate. Longer I seat worse my burning in the rectum gets. I feel very uncomfortable between the grown. Can't seat for a long time. Sometime I get mild burning sensation in my scortum as well. Burning also occurs in the area between rectum and scortum. I also went back to my regular physican who physically looked at my rectum and said he did not see anything unusual to treat me. He prescribed some over the counter suppository. That didn't help a bit. Now I don't know what to do and where to turn. I am having continious rectum burning and no one knows what it is. Any direction would be highly appreciated. Could this be prostatits?

Prostatitis is certainly possible.

Obtaining a prostate exam and prostatic massage should be considered.  Any prostatic fluid that is expressed should be sent off to the lab for analysis and culture.  There are some cases of prostate infections that may require several weeks to months of antibiotics.

If there is suspicion of a prostatic abscess, a transrectal ultrasound can be considered to image the prostate.

If negative, other causes of the rectal pain can be considered with an anoscopy or colonoscopy.

These options can be discussed with your personal physician or urologist.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
