Enlarged Vein?

Enlarged Vein?

I am a 22 year old male, about 6 months ago I developed a large vein on the right side of my penis.  It is the only vein visible on my penis.  It is very noticable when erect and not so much when flacid.  Its not hard, it is soft like a sponge.  Its a very large vein about 3/4 an inch all the way around, about half of it bulging out.  It is not painful at all though.

It seems to somewhat affect my erection quality when not using condoms during sex.  I can get erections fine but it seems they are not the same quality as before.  When you press down just slightly, or use a condom which presses on the vein the erection returns to what it once was.  Basically whenever there is just slight pressure on the top of the penis where the vein is, it is fine but I lose some quality when none is present with this vein.

I was wondering what can be done to fix it or what you recommend.  Should I be worried?  Thanks

One consideration would be Mondor's disease, or superficial thrombophlebitis of a penile vein.  Typically, treatment would involve anti-inflammatories, which should help with the symptoms.  You may want to consider an ultrasound to ensure that is all there is.

If the symptoms have been persisting (6 months in your case), a urology referral can be considered to discuss whether a surgical procedure may be of benefit to remove the vein.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
