Epididymitis - pain in penis

I was diagnosed with a UTI last monday, and given a week's worth of doxycycline to clean it up.  Test results for Chlam. and Ghon. came back negative.  I was still suffering from pain in my scrotum and pelvic area, and pain in the glans, as well as a lump on the tubing at the top of my scrotum, left side.

The doctor told me it was epididymitis, and prescribed an anti-inflammatory, but no more antibitocs.  I've read that epididymitis may cause pain at the tip of the penis, but after 2 days of taking this new medication, the pain in my scrotum hasn't subsided significantly and there is a new general pain/burning in my penis shaft and head in general.  There is no burning/pain while urinating, and the pain doesn't seem to be coming from the urethra.

Is this a normal symptom associated with Epididymitis?  I expected the pain to be localized around the scrotum, and not in my penis?  Does this sound like something else that could be causing this?

Please help.  Thanks.

Hi. I think i am reopening this post after a long time.

I have similar symptoms. I am currently under treatment for epididmytis and under antibiotics and anti inflamatory. I was prescribed medicine for 5 days and its my 5th day now. the pain in the scrotum looks reduced. But i have slight discomfort in the form of burning sensation at my penis. Is this a normal symptom when the epididmyitis is getting cured.

How long did u have the burning sensation and did the pain in tye scrotum come back?

The urologist checked with an ultrasound and said everything is normal. I am still afraid of the symptoms i have. Is it that i am worried too much?

Hi,
Thanks for writing in. I think you are just worrying too much. I think you got infected by a urinary tract infection, not specifically by an STD and that has passed infection all through your urinary tract.
Symptoms that you mentioned now like burning pain in the shaft are due to balanitis. Epididymitis usually causes pain over back and upper part of the testis. Prostatitis causes pain at the tip of the penis and cystitis causes pain in the pubic region and just above.
I would advise you to get another check of urine with culture to determine which organism is causing the infection and treatmenrt accordingly.
Best.
