Epididymitis recurrance?

brx
I was diagnosed with epididymitis a few weeks ago and was prescribed antibiotics and anti-inflammatories for 10 days. I have gotten better and better over the past couple of weeks but i can feel the infection has not completely gone yet. My epididymis still feels swollen and painful after sex(protected) or masturbation. It feels like it aggravates the problem so should i abstain from anything sexual for a given amount of time?

Will abstinance make the problem clear up or should i take another course of antibiotics and anti inflammatories?

I have also been diagnosed with Epidiymitis and have been dealing with the pain and inflammation coming and going. It has been 7 weeks now and it's starting to get a little disheartening because it seems like as soon as I think I am feeling normal the pain sets in again. The only thing that seems to help me is ibuprofin. Have gone to urologist and they are very unconcerned stating that they have seen much worse cases and that mine is very mild. I too just want to feel normal again.

hi i too have recently been diagnosed with epididymitis, it seems we have the same concerns, as its been three weeks and i still feel the tenderness and a slight discomfort. i finished my antibiotics and it got better over the course of a week but then it seemed to just stop getting better and it has been at the same level for a week now with no more improvement. however, i dont experience pain with ejaculation, i never really did. i was told that the swelling takes 6 to 8 weeks to resolve and that it can cause discomfort, still it seems i should have noticed an improvement over the last week. well i wish you the best of luck and may we be rid of this horrible abomination

I appreciate the time you have taken to answer.

I have finished my course of antibiotics over 3 weeks ago, yet i can still feel some very mild pain. Could that just be swelling? I have also had a slight amount of discharge which i suppose means that an infection is still possible. Would taking another course of antibiotics get rid of any lingering infection or do you think i should just give it more time?

Hi,
Abstinence is usually suggested in patients of epididymitis due to the following reasons :
1. Since most of the epididymitis is caused by organisms which cause the STD’s, hence there’s a risk of passing on that infection to the partner.
2. The epididymitis is inflamed and hence sexual intercourse/masturbation can increase the pain.
3. The swelling may last longer even when there’s no active infection in the epididymis as the inflammation takes a little longer to settle down. We usually give 10 days of antibiotics only. You can take anti-inflammatories for a few more days.
I sincerely hope that helps. Please do keep me posted. Kind Regards.
