Erectile Dysfunction

I am a 59 year old unmarried heterosexual male in a monogomous and sexually very active relationship.  About five months ago I noticed a difference in the quality and character of my erections: The head of my penis no longer seems to be turgid or engorged to the extent that it had been; in fact, it seems to be somewhat flaccid, while the rest of my penis is erect.  Although my libido seems to be declining slightly, I have no problem becoming aroused and erect and I have an orgasm about three times a week, although I am sexually active more often.

Is there a name for my condition, and is there a treatment for it?  I currently take 5mg of Norvasc for hypertension and 10mg of lipitor for cholesterol.

I am not sure if this is related or not, but I have noticed that within about an inch or so of the opening of my urethra, that canal feels rough or uneven compared to the internal side of the urethra.  There is no discomfort or difficulty in urinating.  PSA tests have very low readings.

This is likely erectile dysfunction, or male sexual dysfunction.  There are many causes for this - including a side effect of medication, or a sequalae for a disease (i.e. diabetes or peripheral vascular disease).

I would suggest discussing this issue with your personal physician.  A test for testosterone as well as examining groin pulses should be done at a minimum.  An ultrasound can be considered to determinine if there are any anatomical abnormality.

There are various medications that help with erectile dysfunction, such as Viagra, Levitra, and Cialis - and they should all be discussed to see if they are right for you.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
