FOLLicle with sepation - OVARY

by Karworried, Aug 30, 2005 12:00AM
I just had an ultrasound and these were the findings:  Essentially negative ovaries except for a small follicle with sepatition within the left ovary.  Retroverted minimally enalrged uterus. Mild changes of adenomyosis.  THe follicle measuring 1.6 X1.6 X 1.8 - I go back in 2 months for check up - Dr. says nothing to worry about.  Is there?/ What is septation??

A septation is simply a descriptive term suggesting that the ovary is divided internally by partitions or walls ("septa").  There can be variation from patient to patient - but thicker walls may be a risk factor for ovarian cancer.

You can consider serial ultrasounds to follow the progression of the ovary characteristics during the mentrual cycle.  It is possible that the septations may change at different points of the cycle.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
