Failed urethroplasty

by peter__0__0, Dec 19, 1998 12:00AM

I had a urethroplasty 4 weeks ago. The Dr. replkaced 2" of urethra with foreskin tissue.Within 4 weeks I was restrictured. He tried to dilate the end of my penis, and innadvertantly ruptured the urethra. The next time I urinated,My penis swelled up like a bloated codfish aqccompanied with unbearable pain.I had to be re caheturised with a #12 pediatric foley. I may be looking at further surgery. I've heard there is a laser procedure available. Is this true? What other options to further surgery do I have? Thank you in advance for any information. Also could this rapid reccurence be cancerous in nature?   Peter

Dear Peter
Thanks for your questions.
As far as cancer is concerned, the resected specimen should have been sent to pathology to look for cancer.  The chances of cancer is extremely low if the path report is negative.
Laser surgery is usually used to incise the stricture  in hopes of  decreasing the scar tissue formation.  I am sure your urethra already has a lot of scar tissue just because of your healing from the last surgery.
buccal mucosal free graft are continuing  to show promise as a urethral tissue substitute.  Good luck  with possible future surgical corrections.
