Free Psa Tests

  On May-1996 my regular Dr. did a psa that shows 2.4. On the same month next year(1997) I had a prostatitis situation were my psa went up to 17. I took Floxin for 10 days and in the next months the psa started comming down until it got to 6.5. Next one was 7.5. My regular Dr. sent me to an urologist that advsd more
  Floxin for 30 days. After the 30 days it went down to 6.5(floxin stopped) and this month it was 7.7. I went back to the urologist. He did an ultrasound(no comments on bad/good) and requested more blood tests.These are the results: Total Psa=7.2 Free Psa=0.7 and Free Psa=10 %(Cal). The lab test shows the Free Psa and the % Free Psa are in range. The total psa out of range. On the 1st of April I am going to have a biopsy done. For what I read my Free Psa is too low so I think I do have a problem(don't know why the lab said the % is in range). Yesterday i was having problems urinating. I took one floxin(300mg) and the problem started to clear out. I will be taken the floxin until next wednesday biopsy.I am from Miami and will like to know your opinion in the best Drs. in my area. Hope your biopsy went well.  Prostatitis, inflammation of the prostate, as well as prostate cancer and benign enlargement of the prostate can cause an elevated  PSA as well as difficulty in urination .    The problem is trying to discern which is causing the problems.  A biopsy can find  inflammation or  cancer ,if present, fairly accurately. Your urologist has certainly made the correct recommendation in that you should have a biopsy. You should know your results soon.  There are many fine board certified urologists in your area and prostatic diseases are well addressed by  them.
