Frequent Urination

Hi,

I'm a 20 yr old college student and as of a year, I have been experiencing frequent bladder problems. When I use the restroom, I never feel as though my bladder is empty. I constantly feel the urge to urinate even though I've spent about 5 minutes on the toilet trying to empty out my bladder (sometimes, it can take 20min). When I first get the urge to urinate, the flow is fine. However, a pinch starts to come out then it stops, then another pinch, then another stop and so forth. I ALWAYS have this urge to urinate some more.

I've been to a urologist and I do not have an IC or a UTI. I've been on Toviaz and Vesticare to no avail. My urologist refuses to prescribe an antibiotic because there are no signs of an infection. He believes it's a psychological problem, but I disagree. It's not my mind that initiates the urge to constantly urinate because there's been this urge for a year and I believe that if it was truly psychological, the problem would not exist when I'm stress or anxiety free.

I'm suffering and I need help. If you have been through such problems, please tell me what you did to resolve the problem. I'm open to any suggestions for medication to take back to my urologist on my next scheduled appointment.

My 18 year old son is having similiar problems.  Started 3 months ago.  Worse during the day (when sitting).  His urinalysis (4 of them) comes back clear with no infection.  He's had an ultra-sound that also came back fine.

He's gone to two urologist (we didn't like the first one) and both called it Dysuria Frequent Urgency.  The second doctor put him on an anti-biotic (sulfameth) just in case there was a slight infection not showing up in test.

He has been taking enablex but doesn't feel it's helping much at all.  Doctors both said it could last a few months and should go away on it's own.  (Which is too vague for my son!)

I feel for you.  My son says it quite embarassing to have to get up every 20 mins in class to go use the bathroom.

He want's to try some other medicines.  We talked about the cystoscopy test with doctors (where they put a camera in your urethra), however doctors felt it had very "low yield" results and said not to bother.

The first doctor said it was very common in young males due to hormones.  I told him we've looked all over the itnernet and didn't think it was that common in young men (older men with prostrate issues yes!)

I spoken to one woman who's 15 year old had it for 3-1/2 months and it gradually went away... he was not on medication.

Anxiety makes it worse, of course.  My son says he feels like his groin muscles hurt from holding it in all the time.

Good luck to you.  Hopefully you will see relief soon.

I've had a cysto done and I've even gone in for a thorough ultrasound of my bladder. The urologist found nothing and has no solution to the problem.

Ask for a cystoscopy (where they put a camera in your urethra to see what's blocking it).
I'm going in for one in a few weeks and hoping for answers.
