Frequent urination, abdominal discomfort

Sorry for the length of this post, but I have tried to include all relevant information from the beginning of my problem. Please bare with me through the

length of this post.

Please offer me any advice, as this problem has caused me large amounts of stress, especially when it started interrupting even my sex life & sleep.

I have been working out for around two years now, and I always have drank one to two protein shakes a day without any problems. However, around last May

(2007) I was trying to gain weight and I added in weight gainer shakes. I cannot remember the brand, but I remember they had around 600cal each, and ~40g of

protein(I have since learned that this is too much protein for your body to use at once). I drank 2 of these a day, and nothing else about my diet changed. I

was probably consuming about 180-200g of protein a day, while weighing 150lb @ 8% body fat. I am quite sure I wasn't drinking nearly enough liquids during

this time.

Around the time I was finishing the first package of this weight gainer shake(3-4weeks) I started having to urinate MUCH more often than I previously(as in,

my whole life) had to. Around once per hour(sometimes more sometimes less), regardless if I cut my water intake or not. I stopped taking the weight gainer.

This problem puts quite the damper on quality of life, interrupting sex, class, work, etc.

About 2-3 days before my urination problems began, I had unprotected oral & vaginal sex with a girl who recently came to the US from Japan (I mention this

incase they, perhaps, have different STDs over there). I figure that 2-3 days is too quick for symptoms to show up, though.

STD test for chlamydia, gonorrhea, herpes returned negative.

I delayed going to the doctor for 2 months or so (I don't have insurance), but finally did and they found no infection, and offered no real help. (It was a

walk in clinic).

Around September-Oct. I finally went to a Urologist..
He found no infection in my urine, and performed an ultrasound (measured my Prostate at 17, which he said fell within the normal range) but put me on

antibiotics (Cipro) for THREE months citing that he was targetting my prostate because it may have an infection.

My condition improved but definately didn't go away. The course of antibiotics ended at the beginning of January, and since I still have had this problem I

went back to the Urologist, who performed (I believe) a cystoscopy. I have a really hard time getting feedback from my urologist(he's the really in-and-out

asap type.. I'm going to a different urologist next time). He didn't really give me any opinion on the procedure, but prescribed me a tricyclic

antidepressant (75mg, I can't find the exact drug at the moment). After doing research on these antidepressants I decided I don't want to take them due to

side effects. I didn't get my prescription filled.

A summary of my direct symptoms:
-Frequent Urination, gets worse the more liquids I drink BUT I can sometimes not drink anything for 6+ hours (not an exaggeration), and have to urinate every

20 minutes (ranging from medium to very small amounts of urine)

-I often urinate amounts which clearly are too little (in volume) compared to my feeling of urgency

-Abdominal discomfort/pressure (where I would assume my bladder is), 2 inches or so above the base of my penis

-90% of the time it takes more effort than expected to begin urinating.

-When my stream stops I often feel like I have more urine, (this is hard to describe) I "juke" more spurts of urine by trying to relax and then flex some

muscle around my perennium.

-Nocturia, which reduced greatly after the 3month course of Cipro, but still happens 1-3 times a week.

-Discomfort around my perenium, as well as a feeling that I am 'holding it in' at the base of my penis.

Other symptoms:

-Around the middle of my penis it often feels like I am leaking some small amount of urine, EVERYTIME I've checked there's never been any sort of discharge

or urine (I've checked multiple times by squeezing my penis from the base to the tip to clear the urethra)

-Sex or masturbation can be interrupted because I have to urinate, causing me to lose my erection

-I can drink some water and have to urgently urinate 10 minutes later, which was not the case before these problems began (this isn't always the case,

though)

I'd also like to mention that it seems like my urine is completely clear (as in, not colored yellow at all) far more often than before my symptoms started.

I cannot think of anything else relevant(or maybe relevant haha) right now, feel free to ask any questions.

Thank you for your time, Doctor (and whoever else).

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi ,

A cystoscopy requires a flexible or rigid tube to be inserted into the urethra wherein your physician may be able to visualize the urethra and the bladder using a tv monitor.A solution is infused into the bladder to adequately visualize the bladder wall.

In your case was this how it was done?

Any how, your symptoms seem to suggest a prostate problem.

Abdominal discomfort, urgency , frequency , and decrease in urine flow may suggest further evaluation of the prostate. At your age, a prostate infection may be likely. Prostate infections are relatively not easy to treat. I suggest you stop drinking the protein drink and continue taking plenty of water to improve circulation. You may keep a diary of your symptoms everyday so you may be able to follow your progress. Note any triggering factors, amount of water taken ,number of times voided and character of the urine.

Discuss this with your physician when you seek second opinion and bring your results with you. An infection is likely since you have also noted improvement of your symptoms after taking antibiotics.

I cannot seem to edit my post.

I want to mention that I am not POSITIVE it was a cystoscopy, but something similar. I cannot find my bill to see the name of the procedure, but basically:

He prescribed me some valium to take a couple of hours before the appointment. In the office a nurse applied some local anasthetic to my penis and put a clip on it. The doctor came in, had me lay down, took off the clip, and put a device down my urethra. It took maybe 2-4 minutes total, there was only discomfort at one point for a very short period of time (he warned me of a "pinching" feeling).

Why I am not sure if cystoscopy is because I did not experience any sort of after-effects such as blood in my urine or any changes in my symptoms.

I am REALLY sorry about the formatting of my first post, I copy pasted from notepad. :(
