Frequent urination

Frequent urination

Last month I had this irritation in the penis, along with some mild diarrhea. It felt like the need to urinate but it wouldn't go away after urination. It continued for a few days and I got a urine test done that came back negative. It went away for a bit. But last week I started having many urine symptoms again. On wednesday night I wet my bed and since then I've been having a marked increase in urination, even though I haven't been drinking any more than usual. My penis hurts when I have the urge to urinate and often my bladder does not empty completely in one go. Sometimes my urine comes out spray-like rather than a straight line. I also have some mild diarrhea, stomach bloating and some loss of appetite. I'm really worried, I'm 20 and I've never had these problems before. I'm not sexually active.

Infection should be looked out for.  If the urinalysis is normal, I would be tested for STDs, including gonorrhea and chlamydia.  This can be done via a urine test.

If the symptoms continue, you can have the prostate evaluated via a digital rectal examination or consider a cystoscopy to ensure there is no anatomical abnormality present (i.e. a urethral stricture or polyp).

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
