Full thickness epidermial dysplasia

by DC26, Oct 08, 2009 01:08PM
Dear Doctors:

Thank you for taking the time to read these questions and provide answers for those of us that don't understand medical terms.

I had a couple of skin lessions that were not painful, they were raised over the skin in the shaft of my penis. My urologist performed a frenuloplasty (because I reported a little bit of discomfort I experienced after intercourse not related to the lessions); during the frenuloplasty the doctor surgically removed some of these tiny wart-like skin lessions and burned the others (there were a total of six (6) tiny ones) and sent them to pathology.

I went to see the doctor today and, after two weeks, the frenuplasty has healed succesfully. The skin lessions are also gone.

The pathology report says the following:

Penile skin, "lesion," biopsy:
:Full thickness epidermal dysplasia.

"Slides show fill-thickness epidermial atypia, dyskeratosis, and mitoses. Nuclei are crowed and irregularly arranged, many of which are enlarged, hyperchromatic, and irregular. A p16 immunohistochemical stain performed on both blocks is positive. The histology, patient's young age (I'm 28), and multiplicity of lesions favor a diagnosis of Bowenoid Papulosis."

Could you please tell me what this means? How did I get this (I had unprotected sex with a woman who was not monagamous)? My doctor said not to worry about it and to see him again in three months to see how things are going. I was asked if I wanted to take an HIV and other screening tests, to ease my worry about anything else and to make sure I'm all clear. Is any of the above hinting to anything related to HIV, or any other sexually transmitted disease for that matter? I should get the results in about a week.

He said that I can continue my life as normal and be sexually active. After the surgery, I don't have any skin lessions. Is this contagious? How serious is this condition? any clarification will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much.
