I was born with hypospadias but I had a normal foreskin so no one discovered this until I was 10 yo when my foreskin loosened and I was able to slide it off the glans. My pee hole was on the bottom about an inch below the glans. My mom took me to a doctor who said at my age to wait for puberty to finish before any surgery so my penis had grown to normal size. I had surgery to fix the hypospadias when I was 16-1/2. Most of my foreskin was used to repair the outside opening and a new pee hole was made with a vein from my leg. I have had some problems with it since the vein used should have been larger to enable me to pee easier and faster. I get the urine backing up inside my penis since the last 1.5 inches is not larger enough in diameter to flush the urine through my penis like a normal penis does. My penis is 3.5 inches soft and 6.25 inches erect.
Thanks Dr. J Singh. Do you mean an erect penis 2 inches is normal for what age? Thanks!
Hello,
Sometimes in children the penis is buried below the pubic or buccal pad of fat and hence it is better to wait for children to grow and then the size of penis should be evaluated to look out for micropenis. The size of an erect penis usually over 2 inches is normal. Anything less than that is called micropenis or microphallus.
In children, stretched penis length of less than 1.9cm (3/4 inch) long at birth and can be described as a micropenis.
I hope it helps. Take care and regards.
Hi Dr Singh, Thanks for answering my question. Could you explain what microphallus is? When he saw a urologist at a year old they didn't do any tests on him or even suggest any tests. Do you happen to know why they wouldn't have? If they do discover that he has microphallus, what is done about it? Thanks
Hello,
It is good that you have got the surgery for hypospadias done but a large proportion of men with hypospadias have a penis smaller than average. In that case the possibility of microphallus has to be evaluated. It can be due to testosterone deficiency, pituitary hormone deficiency, hypergonadotropic hypogonadism and growth hormone deficiency. Various investigations required are chromosomal studies, hormone studies like Gonadotropins (LH and FSH), Testosterone and DHT levels, thyroid hormone levels, ultrasonography etc.
I hope it helps. Take care and regards.
