Internal Itching

by libertarian, Feb 13, 2005 12:00AM
Over the past week, I have experienced internal itching in the area of my perineum directly behind my testes. I have reason to believe it may be my urethra. The itching is not constant. There is no pain, burning, or blood during urination, and there is no swelling either. Just itching. It also feels as if it may be spreading or moving in the direction of urinary flow along the penis, but I can't be sure.

I am celibate and I normally masturbate about once every other day.

Prostatitis should be considered, as well as urethritis.  These diseases can be evaluated first with a urinalysis, which can suggest infection.  If negative, you can consider a thorough digital rectal exam to evaluate the prostate, as well as a transrectal ultrasound which can image the prostate for possible abscesses.

If a non-infectious cause has been ruled out, things like dermatitis or a fungal infection can both be considered.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
