Is Testicular Atrophy Reversible?

My husband was diagnosed with low Testosterone levels in 2000.  He started on patches and later injections of supplemental testosterone.  Our doctor never did any other hormone testing and his levels were not checked on a regular basis.  We conceived a child in 2003 and she was born in 2004.  Recently we had fertility tests done as we have not been able to have another child.  It was found that he had azoospermia.  He also has a great degree of testicular atrophy.  We are obviously devastated.  My concern is whether or not this can be reversed and if we will ever again be able to have a child.  Should he stop the testosterone?  The whole situation is extremely confusing and frustrating.  I would be grateful of any help/advice you could give.  Is there a light at the end of the tunnel?

Eight years ago deep, and very dark depression forced me to ask my urologist to check my thyroid as I've never been moody. He checked testosterone too, and multiple tests at different times of day showed it was quite low, barely above 100. So he put me on andogel which had a dramatic effect on mood, the depression vansihed, never to return.

The testicular atrophy I have isn't really a problem per se, as I'm 67 and have all the hormone needed to function more than satisfactorily, to my wife's occasional chagrin.. But they have shrunk to be amazingly small, somewhat larger than peanuts, and the scrotal sack has responded accordingly, being almost flat againt my perineum.

Would the testicles ever bounce back to normal size with supplementation cessation, or is this a permanent condition after eight years?

Do testicles bounce ? Can they be tricked ? :)) what needs to be done is find the reason for low T. Look at the command and control center for hormones, the pituitary gland. Too much prolactin from a Prolactinoma on the Pituitary will shrink your gonads and suppress testosterone. Get the prolactin down and you could have bouncing testicles and good testosteron levels again :)

1)    I have not been able to feel my orgasms for about a month and a half or a little bit more....
Also I have numbness of the penile area like a lessening feeling.

2)    I think the feeling started to dwindle starting in August/september during that time I could tell less sensitivity was happening ,but I did not take it seriously so I thought sleep it off. Then during the months until December my mind was just destroyed feeling a lot more numbness and less feeling..... :/ :(

3)     So during the first couple of days of january 2015I went to a doctor to see me. I thought it might have been a bladder/uriniary infection I was prescribed an anti-biotic. I thought less feeling = infection(meaning infection is destroying cells/nerves in penile area).

4) I gave blood for tests and I gave a urine sample. The urine sample was clean... nothing..... no bacteria etc..... it was tested at a lab and by the doctors office. Nothing showed up... not culture nada...

5) The blood test came up with Low-Testosterone I am hoping the LOW-T is the cause of my numbness/less feeling ... I had a scor of 258 for my T level.... I am scared I have nerve damage or permanently unable to feel the orgasm.... I can feel the build up to an orgasm ,but then hit by a brick wall when the ejaculation occurs.... There is also penile numbness.... I sometimes wish I was a chick....... Being a man is tough.....

I can relate 100% and wondered if you could send me your research information and dosage levels and if this is something that you need to continue. My primary care is clueless and doesn't see it as a big deal and the urologist agreed. Im not happy with either response and will be looking for more info to bring to my PC and or new urologist. My T levels were low but did not require therapy.

I am 59 yrs old . run and work out pretty reg. I have been taking testostrone pellet injections. My wife takes and it works great for her lack of estrogene . she had a full historectomy years ago.
so i starten getting the injections.
I saw a youtube video on testicular shrinkage. and started paying attention. starting to shrink after 2 years {about}
The dr. was sports medicine for ?? maybe olympic team. He said the real solution is to block something???  thus allowing the testicles to do their job and this medicine would block the testosterone blockers. or maybe he said that it stops the estrogene, and; it would give same effect as testosterone.
can i just go to a local dr. and get the hcg  ?? thanks for the comments and help.

Akhter are you fine now? If yes please share your experience. How to regain testicle size and function please help
Avatar universal
Hi, I also need the information about how to get off T and regain function and size of the testicles. Recently had testicular atrophy on the right side which I took up with my Dr. He sent me to an Uro who tested T levels which were on the lower end of the scale and he put me on T treatment. Due to the atrophy the sperm count is also low. Could you email me all research and info you have regarding getting off the T and try getting the size and function increased.

when i was 17 years old i took steroids. i was not fully developed yet and never new about PCT's or Serms. The effects of atrophy set in and i never thought much about it after 8 years i started feeling tired , weak , no drive n life and low libido . so i went to the doctor and had a 298 test level thay put me on Test - Depo / Cypinate every 14 days i told the doctor that i didn't need this that i need my own testicles to  function normally again and that this was the reason i had low test in the first place he told me that his treatment was the best option i argued and placed many phone calls to specialist and did tons of research and found out that i had made a huge mistake when i was 17 and was an idiot. But i found out that there was people just like me so i contacted them on line and forums found a patient being treated for it who taught me every thing and gave me a treatment that worked for him so i took it to my doctor and said this is what i want to do help me or i will find a new doctor. i gave him all my research and we decided it was possible to work but it would be very aggressive and will have side effects. at this point i was desperate and running out of options. I was to stop the T shots and Take HCG for 1 and a half months then  start with nolvadex for 3 weeks then switch to clomid for 3 weeks. so i did. Best choice of my life It was very aggressive i had a few mood swings but i controlled hem well used exercise to help. After the treatment my testicles grew back to all most 100% normal size my libido was of the charts rock hard boners BTW  and My test levels were sustained around 750-850. Since this i have had tons of energy and sex drive as well as feeling confident again. And i just wanna say TY to all the patients that helped me and for the record most doctors are uneducated in this field even Endo's can lack the exp for each individuals problem. Make sure you tell your doctor how you feel remember you pay them and a degree means nothing cuz thay just have basic knowledge in all areas thay rely on research and books more than there education.

In 1981 I had a vasectomy. Since then, I have learned that this can  cause a big drop in T. My doctor tested me and said I am very low, putting me on T injections every three weeks. Nothing was ever said about atrophy, but lately I have noticed a HUGE decrease in testucluar size, just as reported here by others. SInce my baby-making days are long over, I am not concerned about my fertility, nor even for the cosmetics of the situation. But, I am concerned about my overall health effects and long term results. At 73 I'm just not too concerned about my balls. I realize I need to lose some of these pounds, which may have cause much of the low T in the first place. So, my question is: do I need to be doing anything differently? My libido has improved considerablty since starting the injections a year ago. My wife is a bit miffed, saying it doesn't make any difference to her. This is a great site; thanks for all the good input to everyone.

Did the hcg treatment increase the size of your testicles? And what happened after you stopped  hcg treatment? Did the testicle size decrease?

I am 38. I can not remember since when I have testicular atrophy.
The urologists I visited told me there is no cure. I have to live with testicular atrophy. I have also azoospermia. My LH value is 14 mIU/mL. My testicle size is 8 ml. My urologist told me I should have more than 14 ml sized testicles. The urologist told me that my testosteron is at the lower end but in the normal range. As far as I understand I do not have much hope to improve my situation. I did no HCG treatment but I am not sure that HCG treatment is right for me.

Am I right? There is no hope that I can cure my testicular atrophy.
