Itch and lumps in groin

by Joe__0__0, Oct 22, 1998 12:00AM

For about two months now I have been treating what I thought was tinea cruris in my groin. The creams I use, based on clotrimazole, relieve the itching a lot,but never completely cured it. Recently, about 3 or 4 lumps appeared in my scrotum and around it. These lumps are near the surface of the skin, so they don't appear to be located in any specific part. Sometimes one of them disappears and sometimes another one appears. Also, a slightly painful lump appeared in my buttocks. Can it be cancer of some kind, although I'm only 19 years old? Could this be due to overmedication? What kind of doctor should I go to? a dermatologist or a urologist?

Dear Joe,
Your description sound to be that of a dermatologic problem. I am not able to even guess at exactly what is going on but certainly tinea is not likely nor is it related to your choice of treatment. I would suggest that you see a dermatologist for this. Not incidentally, I think that you should avoid any sexual contact until you have been evaluated by this physician and discussed this with him/her.
