Kidney Pain

  this past saturday my father fell in the attic onto some rafters.  he hit his kidney area and has had significant pain since.  he delayed in going to the doctor.  i am concerned about potential future long term damage to one's kidneys in such a case.  he has been able to walk only with difficulty even though it is now four days later.  any general information you can provide would be really helpful.  thanks.

If the kidney is bruised , there is a slight chance he will develop hypertension in the future.  He will not need dialysis as long as the other kidney remains healthy.  I assume he does not have blood in the urine.
