Hi;
I have a postive diagnosis of both kidney stones and
hypertension. Is there any relationship between the two?
=============================================================
Dear JJ,
Kidney stones and hypertension are
commonCommon cold diagnoses, and often develop completely separately. Studies have tried to determine if one treatment for kidney stones, extracorporeal
shockAcute respiratory distress syndrome
Cardiogenic shock
Electroconvulsive therapy
Hepatic ischemia
Hypoglycemia
Hypovolemic shock
Lithotripsy
Shock
Toxic shock syndrome wave lithotrypsy (ESWL) causes hypertension, or not. These studies have basically inconclusive in this regard. Hypertension is a possible outcome of long term obstruction of a kidney from kidney stones.
To determine if your kidney stone or its treatment is related to your hypertention may be impossible. The timing of the two diagnoses may shed light on the question.
More individualized care is available at the Henry Ford Hospital and its suburban campuses at (1

Please bring any physicians’ notes and lab test results that you may be able to obtain. These will help
us greatly.
