My husband is 82 years of age. Just had 2nd Lithotripcy and stent inserted. Was sent home with catheter which has since been removed. Seen by doctor next day due to intense abdomen pain and constant urination. Ultrasoudn showed bladder emptying okay and some indication of stone fragments. Sent home with pills. Asked if this pain is normal, doc said yes. Is still having intense pains in bladder and kidney. Doctor will see him again in two weeks following an X-ray. Taking two Vicodin for pain. Is this normal, and is it normal to wait two weeks to find out the results a lithotripcy to decide whether to do laser surgery? If this keeps up, should he go to emergency hospital?

There may be some pain associated with stent placement. Some of the stone fragments may also exacerbate the pain. It is reasonable to follow-up in a short period of time to see if the lithotripsy works.
According to the PDR, the dose of Vicodin is 1-2 tablets 4-6 hours per day. The maximum depends on the dose of the Vicodin. If the hydrocodone component is 5mg or less, than the maximum dosage is 8 tablets. If the hydrocodone component is 5mg or more, than the maximum dosage is 5-6 tablets. I would consult with your personal physician to make sure what is the appropriate dosage for your husband.
If the pain is excruciating, then you may want to bring him to the ER for further evaluation.
Followup with your personal physician is essential.
