There may be some pain associated with stent placement. Some of the stone fragments may also exacerbate the pain. It is reasonable to follow-up in a short period of time to see if the lithotripsy works.
According to the PDR, the dose of Vicodin is 1-2 tablets 4-6 hours per day. The maximum depends on the dose of the Vicodin. If the hydrocodone component is 5mg or less, than the maximum dosage is 8 tablets. If the hydrocodone component is 5mg or more, than the maximum dosage is 5-6 tablets. I would consult with your personal physician to make sure what is the appropriate dosage for your husband.
If the pain is excruciating, then you may want to bring him to the ER for further evaluation.
