Losing Pubic Hair and Really Frightened

I am a 48 year old male and my pubic hair has drastically thinned in the past two years!  I have described this concern to my family doctor at my last two physicals and was told just than I'm getting old.  That may be true but I'm not that old yet.  Also, I'm faily certain than my axillary hair has thinned and just recently have experienced a bald spot in my moustache hair.  What could be the the cause?

I'm tired all the time and feel that I am aging rapidly. I don't want to lose all of my pubic hair.  I've been divorced several years and want to reenter the dating world but I am embarrassed at my thin pubic hair.  I have taken propecia for 7 years but was told by doctor and 2 doctors on baldness forums that propecia could not reduce pubic hair and axillary since they are not DHT-dependent.  Could they be wrong?  What other health issues could be causing me to lose pubic hair? Please help me!

You can consider checking your testosterone level - which can decrease as one ages.  Other considerations would be diabetes or thyroid dysfunction (although this symptom would be an atypical presentation).

Fungal infection or dermatitis is also possible.  These options can be discussed and evaluated by a dermatologist.

These options can be discussed with your personal physician.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
