Lowered Testicle


  One of my testicles hangs lower than the other.When ever i tense up this testicle does not move.The other testicle moves up.This testicle seems to just be hanging in the sac?

            Thank you for your question.
           You are correct that the testes usually move with exposure to different temperatures in order to regulate their own temperature. Sperm production occurs best at a temperature slightly below normal body temperature. After surgery involving the spermatic cord ( the structure at the end of which the testicle hangs containing muscle, blood vessels and the vas deferens) this ability is often lost. Such surgeries are inguinal  hernia repairs and orchiopexies (to bring down undescended testes).
           I am unaware of any studies addressing this issue and would not be particularly concerned unless you are dealing with infertility or the testicle does not  feel normal or is enlarging. I am not aware of any treatment for this either.
