Lump in scrotum following varicocele surgery

I had varicocele surgery on March 19th. They were also supposed to remove a spermatocele, but when the doctor began the surgery he realized it wasn't a spermatocele but another enlarged vein at the back of my testicle (I want to say the renal vein?). Anyway he said that happens sometimes, and both problems were fixed. Now it's almost 3 months later, and I can still feel a hard lump on the left side of my left testicle. It doesn't seem to go away or change size when I lay down, but I'm almost positive it wasn't there before the surgery. It's causing me some discomfort and the inside of my thigh right by it is kind of sore too. If I stand for a long period of time I get a feeling of pressure in my testicle, and it's just kind of uncomfortable. No sharp pain or anything. I also get pain under my left leg when I sit for a long time, but I don't know if that's related or not. I've been back to the urologist for two checkups and told him about it and both times he said that was normal, although I'm not sure if he ever physically felt the lump or not. It's a lot easier to feel when my testicles are relaxed and obviously that never happens at the doctor's office. It hasn't seemed to change at all in the past 4-6 weeks. Anyway I was just wondering if this could be normal, and if not what it sounds like. Should I get a second opinion?

I would obtain another opinion if you aren't comfortable with the diagnosis. With any procedure, there is always the possibility of thrombosis. Other considerations in addition to a spermatocele or cyst would be a hydrocele (fluid collection) or another form of testicular mass.
A repeat scrotal ultrasound would be able to see if this is the case. If it continues to be a cyst or evidence of a thrombosed vein another urological procedure should be able to relieve the symptoms.
Followup with your personal physician is essential.
