hey, i came out of meatal stenosis surgery 4 days ago and i am 13 years, old, my doctor gave me bacitracin zinc ointment USP....i apply it my self after everytime i pee, but i am 13 your son is about 3, so you just need to separate the cut, and place some of the ointment in it and on top, it is pain free, i hope the best for you and your son
Hi,
There are two options with regard to after care following a meatotomy. One option is that which has been advised by the child’s doctor and the other option is separation of the cut edges of the meatus to apply antibiotic ointment or petroleum jelly. It is not very clear how cooperative your child may be to even the second procedure, but it is worthwhile to try something less traumatic, psychologically.
Alternatively, you can use the tip of an eye ointment tube to facilitate dilatation and ask your son to do it himself. This will make him want to cooperate and he can have your assistance and guidance if he needs it.
Forcing anything on a child will give rise to behavioral issues that may be harder to deal with in the future.
Though chances of stenosis are reported to be rare, it would be best not to take the risk of subjecting your child to all that pain and additional intervention again.
Do keep us posted on your doubts.
