Mom concerned about 15 year old son

My 15 year old son has a problem after urinating.  He tends to wipe his penis so not to drip and when he does, he sees a little drop of blood on the toilet paper.  Sometimes, the blood is not present and it may burn a little bit when he starts to urinate. This has gone on now for 2.5 weeks.  He is getting quite worried.  His blood workup was fine, ultrasound negative, and urinalysis was perfect.  Please help.

Thank you for your response.  Unfortunately, he has had two urinalysis done both of which showed no signs of bacteria. He just recently was on a course of Zithromax and found the same result. If anything, the antibiotic made him feel strange, tired, stabbing abdominal pain, etc.  He is very active in the gym and is not sexually active yet.  If he does not wipe after urinating, he does not see any traces of blood.  We do have a urologist appointment at the end of this month, but of course, I am still concerned and wish it would just go away.

Hi, the problem could be due to some urinary tract infection. Usually burning sensation and blood in urine is seen after chlamydia infection. It is also possible that it could be infection restricted to urethra. Getting a urine culture done will help in making a diagnosis. A course of antibiotic will help. Also increasing the daily water intake helps in flusing off the infection.
