Hi, , my daughter who is nearly 4, has suffered various times from an itching vagina, when i have taken her to the doctor they have prescribed cream for her. Recently she was complaining of pain when she passed urine, the other night when she went to the toilet i noticed two small traces of blood in her urine. The next day i took her to the doctor thinking that she had a urine infection as she had all the classic symptoms of itchiness, very red and inflammed uretha, and pain when passing water. They did a urine test and told me there was no infection, but still microscopic traces of blood which needed to be further investigated. Now my daughter says that there is no more pain when she goes to the toilet or itchiness. I was applying canestan to the vagina. The doctor told me that he would do a repeat test and if there was still blood a scan. I am terrified because I am thinking the worst, that it could be kidney cancer. Otherwise my daughter is very healthy with a very big appetite and no weight loss, full of energy, but i am still convinced that it could be cancer. Is it possible to have had an infection, that has just cleared up and still have some traces of blood in the urine. What else could be causing this. Please reassure me as I am really nervous.

Kidney cancer would be unlikely in a 4-year old.
UTIs in children should be further evaluated for urine reflux. The scan that your physician is talking about is likely a voiding cystourethrogram (VCUG), which can detect this abnormality.
If negative, imaging the kidneys with a CT scan or ultrasound can be considered to rule out intrinsic kidney disease.
These options can be discussed with your personal physician.
Followup with your personal physician is essential.
