I have had test after test after test and they always come back negative. I felt a pain in my urethra followed by blood 3 months ago. Since then I have felt an irritation, though the blood has not returned. I guess all I want is some advice on how to handle all of these negative results in the faceFace pain of lingering irritation. I trust my urologist, but I just wish there were some answers out there.
It is important to note that certain tests may not be always accurate in giving the diagnosis . They may be falsely positive at times. Some tests are more likely to be falsely negative. Also, laboratories do differ in their techniques and reagents used.
Hello,
I have had many blood/urine tests in the past three months. I have also had an ultraUltra choice multivitamin/mineral Ultra choice multivitamin/mineral mature formula Ultra fresh Ultra fresh p.m. Ultra-natal sound for my kidneys and that thing where they stick a tube with a camera in there to look around. Recently I had a culture of my urine tested for bacteria, but that also came up negative. Also, they have checked for cancer cells which came up negative. Oh, and I have had 2 prostate exams (yikes) by two different doctors and they reported that it was not inflamed or enlarged.
I have had no previous injury to the area. The only possible thing I can think of that could have caused past harm is minor irritations due to not cleaning the area properly when I was younger (not circumcised.) Although it never hurt or felt odd in the past.
The first incident (3 months ago) coincided with masturbation after a 2 week refrain. I felt an odd sensation about an inch inside my urethra. It gave me the sensation that something was in there and I wanted to get it out. During ejaculation I felt an intense burning sensation along with that feeling of something inside the urethra. 4 hours later I peed blood. Gross hematuria if you will.
The blood cleared after a few evacuations. 4 days later I woke up with an erection and then peed a little bit of blood (much less than the first time). The week following I developed a significant amount of pain. I would say it was a 6 on the pain scale for about a week. I was put on Doxycycline (7 days) and then Bactrim (14 days). I noticed no significant improvements with the antibiotics although the condition did improve a bit. After about a month I peed a little blood again (in clot form) and this was following a violent sneeze (maybe related but who knows these things). My urologist then took a look up there and found nothing more than a little redness, but nothing abnormal. He literally said, "This has us scratching our heads." Since then, no more blood and that was almost 8 weeks ago now.
I have masturbated a few times during this period. There is no blood associated with it although it does cause more irritation than normal. There is no blood in the semen.
I have kept a close eye on my urinary patters. For the most part I average 3-5 hours between urination which is normal for me. At times when my urethra feels more tender or irritated I tend to go more often. Currently it feels irritated and if I press on the head I feel a slight jolt of pain. Basically, I am seeing my problem coming from a localized spot in my penis.
Now, Doctor, is it normal to have veins near the surface of the urethra? When I look inside the opening I can see some slightly elevated veins. I am assuming my doctor saw these when he looked up there.
My next appointment is in 2 months. I never imagined that one could suffer like this and not know why. If they could just find the problem, I would be thankful. One day I was normal. The next, I was peeing blood. And it opened me up to a whole new world of exams and forums and horror stories. I pray for a resolution, and I am hopeful that one will come, but this is not an easy trial. So much of what Men define their masculinity on is located in my problem area. When it is all over, I will have a new respect for my body.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. I have support from friends, family, and physicians, but I would be very thankful for any info or support you could give.
Also, I am 21 and not sexually active. I don't smoke and I don't drink coffee. Basically, I eat chocolate, but that's the only thing that is really an irritant. I noticed nothing odd before the first incident.
And, I forgot to mention they tested to see if my bladder was emptying and it was.
I know this is going to be a ridiculous question since you don't know what my problem is for sure, but what do you think the odds are that I'll eventually get better? I mean, just based on what you know about this sort of thing. I am losing faith in my body's ability to deal with the situation. Ridiculous question, but that's where I'm at.
What ever happened in the end? I have something similar but no bleeding, at least not yet. Just varicose veins like in the opening of my urethra...you can see the bulging veins during erection mostly and they look like they are so close that they are about to begin bleeding or have mini ruptures but nothing yet thankfully. I get irritation and such after sex and after peeing in the morning but usually i'm fine. Doc thought it was ok, but i think this is a rare one. I wanted to see what your problem was in the end.
Best regards, friend.
What tests were done ?

Physicians request tests to confirm a likely diagnosis.A complete medical history and physical examination may provide an experienced clinician enough information to form his most likely differential.Only then are diagnostic tests requested to guide him on which differential to focus on.
In your case, have you had any previous injury to the area?
Any activity or event surrounding the onset of the condition?
Has the bleeding recurred?
Are you sexually active?
Any changes in urinary patterns?
