Noticed lump on penis

by RBel, Aug 10, 1998 12:00AM

Last week when showering I noticed a lump on the shaft of my penis.  This seemed to appear suddenly,( one day ).  It is not painful.  It stands out prominately during erection.  It is a very hard knot, no discoloration, redness or other swelling.  Any suggestions as to what this may be?  Thank you in advance for any help you may offer.

Dear R Bell,
The firm lump you describe on the shaft of your penis may be a plaque that is felt under the skin and associated with Peyronie’s disease or may be a lump at the level of the skin itself which may related to a skin process such as a sebaceous cyst.  Peyronie’s disease usually involves curvature of the penis associated with the plaque.  No intervention is necessary unless it is associated with pain during erections (or intercourse) or interferes with intercourse.    A cyst or skin lesion on the penis has a broad differential diagnosis which is best addressed by a thorough history and physical examination by your doctor or urologist who can examine you in person.  Your doctor or urologist would also be the best person to assess to see whether you may have Pyeronie’s disease or not.  Hope this answers your question to some extent and wish you the best.
