I started taking the antibiotics last Friday, so I've been on them 4 days.
I started noticing Saturday night that the infected testicleTesticle lump Testicle pain Testicle ultrasound had shrunk, losing about half its size. Sunday it seemed to be the same. The discomfort has been subsiding. I saw the doctor again today and he felt things were proceeding as normalNormal saline flush and were looking good. When I returned to work, a few hours later I checked the size of the testicle myself and surprisingly it seemed about the size I remember it being before taking the antibiotics. Well, now 3 hours after taking my antibiotics the testicle has shrunk again.
I'm wondering if antibiotics while in your system can cause the testicle to shrink and return to normal once enough time has passed. But, I've also read that 50% of men that get Orchitis have testicular atrophy and lose function in that testicle. I've not had children yet and I'm pretty worried that if things progress to the other testicle I might become sterile. My wife and I were looking at trying to start a family next year. But, while my doctor seems to think things are going well and there's nothing to worry about, what I've read about my condition paints a much more serious picture.
Can antibiotics be the culprit causing my testicle to shrink?
I tried separating the testicles some and feeling a little higher on the infected one, and it seems that rather than being smaller, it may just be pulled up higher than the left one. More than normal higher. It's like the left is laying at the bottom of the scrotum flat and feels more elongated while the right (infected) is pulled up and hanging outright. I wonder if I'm not making myself worried over nothing here. Do infected testicles hang closer to the body than a healthy one then?
