Pain 12 days after vasectomy

by postvas1009, Oct 26, 2009 06:30PM
I had a vasectomy 12 days ago. Two days after the procedure I noticed that there appears to be something (possibly one end of a severed Vas Deferens?) sutured to one of the incisions. I called up my doctor's office and the nurse said that was normal and I should worry.

Yesterday (11 days post vasectomy)  I started having a LOT of pain from both that incision and whatever tube is attached to it. The tube was also very inflamed. I spoke to the on call urologist who said that I shouldn't worry unless it gets very swollen. I should take ibuprofen and ice it.

I started taking 3 ibuprofen every 4 hours and iced it a few times (although things get more painful when everything is contracted, so I haven't been iceing every hour or anything.) I think the tube is less inflamed, but I can still barely walk.

If it brushes against something, it is probably the most pain I've experienced in my adult life (which has been pretty pain free, so I'd maybe rate it an 8?)

Is having something inside (maybe the Vas) attached to the incision really "normal"?

Is such severe pain 12 days post procedure a sign I need to do something other than wait for it to get better?

Should I call the doctor back up and be more insistent that someone look at it?

Hi,
The pain which you’re suffering from could likely be due to an infection or the development of a sperm granuloma. This develops as a result of the entrapment of the sperms in the vas. You should consult the treating surgeon and seek an opinion regarding the further course of action and seek treatment. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care.
