Pain Problem

  4 months ago I had a vaginal hysterectomy and anterior and posterior work done on a polapsed bladder and rectem.  This was done laproscopically.  The utereus was taken out through the vagina.  Since then penetration during sex has been extremely painful and almost impossible.  When I asked my doctor he said this procedure requires some vaginal work also?  Don't understand why?  Feel like I've been sewed up too small!  Can anyone tell me why I would need vaginal work that made my vaginal opening smaller?  This has been a painful and distressing problem.  Thanks for any help.
