Pain during Erection

by antoniogaud, Jul 06, 2003 12:00AM
About a week ago I noticed an odd sensation after sex - feeling almost as if I was still erect, even though I wasn’t. The next time I tried to have sex again, about 2 days later, I felt an intense pain during my erection. Specifically, the pain happens when my penis is moved downward so that it is at a right angle to my body. The more it is rotated down, the more it hurts. However, if the penis is parallel to my torso, the pain isn’t nearly as noticeable.

The pain comes from a localized spot at the very base of the shaft (upper side), or in layman’s terms, the transitional area where the penis attaches to my body. This area seems to have formed a slight lump, although I'm not so sure this didn’t exist before, as I didn’t have a reason to do so thorough a check previous to this event.

I feel a SLIGHT numb pain without the erection, but with the erection the pain intensifies by a large factor. When pressed on, the pain increases. When the ‘lump’ area is pressed on when I am flaccid, I feel a ‘sensation’ that I cant quite describe as pain, but neither could I describe it as pleasant – more like touching a recently bruised area.

I have no symptoms that affect urination or anything else I can think of. I was tested for sexual diseases the day before this "incident" (complete coincidence) and have never had any previous trauma or anything out of the normal.

I have read about Peyronie’s disease - although I'm not sure my symptoms exactly match those of Peyronie’s disease. I'm considering going to the doctor, although before I did that I was hoping the pain would abate within a week or so. The pain (during erection) seems to be as intense today as it was the first time, although to be honest, it does seem to fluctuate in intensity. Please advice.

Hello - thanks for asking your question.

Without examining you, it is impossible to say what is causing your pain.

Peyronie's disease is certainly a possibility.  This characterized by a plaque or lump that forms on the penis.  This plaque can result in pain or cause the penis to bend during an erection.  Treatment can involve injection of certain medications into the plaque, radiation therapy or surgery.

With any penile mass, you should have it examined to make sure that it isn't anything to worry about (i.e. cancer).  An ultrasound and/or biopsy can be considered for further evaluation.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
