Pain in Testical - Doc Says Take Advil

by loofa133, Jun 12, 2003 12:00AM
Hi. Im a 23 yr old guy. About two weeks ago I had slight pain in my testical that became more painful as the course of the week continued. On the weekend of that week (basically 2 weeks ago), I was in a lot of pain and went to the emergency room at my local hospital. There, they did a urine sample and did an ultrasound and gave me 10 days of Cipro to treat my epididymitis they believed I had. The ultrasound showed everything was perfect. I also set up an appointment with a well regarded urologist in the area.

After 10 days of cipro, I visited my urologist today and he checked me out. My testical still hurts (definately not as bad as last week but it varies in soreness). Doc says its not a stone, epidydimytis, cancer, etc. he said its releatively common and just happens sometimes to younger men. He recommended that whenever it hurts to pop an Advil for the pain. He said the pain would vary, sometimes more than other, and there was not much else to do about it.

Does this sound correct or has anyone had similar instances?

Thanks a lot!

Hello - thanks for asking your question.

There are several reasons why you can have continuing testicular pain.  It is comforting that the ultrasound was negative (i.e. excluding testicular masses, varicocele, cancer etc.).

It is possible that the epididymitis was incompletely treated.  Make sure that any cultures for urine or STDs are sensitive to the antibiotics you are taking.

Another consideration would be prostatitis.  Prostatic secretions and urine should be tested and cultured before and after prostatic message.  If positive, chronic prostatitis needs to be treated with an extended course of antibiotics (4-12 weeks).

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
