Pain in the lower back

by jacnkell, Jun 22, 2006 12:00AM
I'm a 39 year old female, overweight but other wise in good health.  I take Paxil 20mg (from Canada), Clear-Atadine (from Canada) and Yasmin  daily.  A about a month ago I woke with a bad lower back pain, so bad I got a new bed that day.  I didn't feel better right a way but the pain did go away. Then about three weeks ago I was on a cruise and got the same lower back pain, once again I blamed the bed. The pain went away but has now been back for two weeks it's below the rib cage and above the hips on the right side(pain level always a 2 when stabbing a 5).  I went to the doctor 4 days ago and he game me Sulfamethoxazole/Tmp ds Ta and told me I had a little puss in my urine.  I felt a little better while taking it(2 twice a day for three days)  but last night I had a stabbing pain in that area for the first time, plus a crazy painful spasm in the overy area (that may be related to my cycle). I thought it was a kidney pain but I'm not sure because It does not hurt in the morning when I wake up, it takes about 30-45 for the pain to start (faster if Im moving around a lot) I go to the restroom about 6-7 times a day I think thats somewhat more often for me but I'm getting older. I also have nausea feeling that come and goes. Also I doesn't have a fever.  Does this sound like a kidney problem?

There is a possibility that the bacteria may be resistant to the antibiotic you took.

Sending the urine out for analysis and culture should be done.  This can determine if there is any antibacterial resistance.

If the infection is not appropriately treated, it can ascend to the kidneys.  Imaging the kidneys for any swelling can be considered - preferably with an ultrasound.

These options can be discussed with your personal physician, or in conjunction with a urologist.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
