Penile Scrotal Fusion

by msklar, Aug 21, 2004 12:00AM
Hello, I have a 7 month old son who was diagnosed at 3 months with Penile Scrotal Fusion. When he was born it looked as though his penis was Very small. By the time he was 3 months old it had improved and really looked normal sized.  The fusion of the Scrotum skin is just below center of the penis.  About a week before his surgery was scheduled I took him in to His Ped (6 mo schduled appt).  The Ped looked at the fusion and we noticed it looked better.  My question is, How nesassary is surgery for this condition? Is the surgery just Cosmetic?  Is it possible that as he gets older that the condition will continue to correct itself?

Also the Doctors like to do the surgery between 6-8 months of age, I would like to wait untill he is a little bit older. Do you know of a significant reason for surgery between these ages? He will not get into surgery before 8 months now, I have changed Ped Urologists and My appt with the new doctor was rescheduled (due to doctor emer.) So now his appt is not for another 2 weeks.

Thankyou, I know very little about this condition. I have two older sons with no problems like this.
Thankyou

I am not a urologist, but from what I understand, the surgery to correct penile scrotal fusion is cosmetic.  It is unlikely that this condition would be able to correct itself in the future, however you may want to discuss this with your personal urologist.

Penile scrotal fusion has been discussed in a previous Med Help forum question and can be accessed here:
