Penile pain and discomfort

Penile pain and discomfort

On and off now for the past 6 months I have been experiencing a variety of symptoms in my penis and groin. It started with an aching pain in my penis. I can feel it about an inch down, inside and it is like a twinge of pain that happens a few times each hour. The pain is often felt more intensely after I have ejaculated. Also, I often experience periods of 1-2 weeks where I can feel an intense burning / tingling sensation all over my thighs. It is felt most intensely in the inside of both my thighs however it seems to have spread all across the tops of my thighs. I will feel these symptoms for a week or two and then they will disappear for a few weeks before coming back. Accompanied with these symptoms I also have a mild itching in my groin, felt at various points all over my penis and in my pubic region. It is not a constant feeling like the burning but more intermittently felt like the twinge of pain felt in my penis. The itching is at different places all over at different times. I have no visible marks, rashes, blisters etc. I also have no pain or difficulty associated with urinating, no discharge or foul smelling urine.

I have been tested and cleared of all STDs. I have seen a Urologist who felt my prostate although did not take any samples. I have just finished 6 weeks of 1000mg per day Cipro that he prescribed for prostatitis, however this has not helped at all. I have also seen a Neurologist re the burning sensation and while he could not find anything wrong in a physical examination, I have had some routine blood tests performed and will have an MRI in 2 days as a more thorough evaluation.

I am really becoming distressed about what is happening to me as so far nobody seems to be able to come up with a diagnosis. I have never been a sickly person and am not one to obsess over small things that are wrong with me, I am certain that these symptoms are real and not

Infection still can be considered.  A prostatic massage and transrectal ultrasound can be considered to more completely evaluate the prostate for infection and possible absces (abscess).

The MRI is reasonable to fully image the pelvic area.

If the tests continue be negative, I would consider a cystoscopy to rule out anatomical abnormalities such as a urethral stricture or polyp.

These options can be discussed with your urologist.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
