Penis/Foreskin problem clarification

by gone_toooo_far, Feb 16, 2007 12:00AM
One month ago I had thrush on the glans of my penis and treated it with Canesten.  After 3 weeks of daily application on the glans and on the underside of the foreskin, things cleared up but what also appeared was dry skin on the outer foreskin. The exterior of the foreskin began to get drier and so i decided to apply moisturising cream to the outside of the foreskin while continuing with the Canasten on the inside of the foreskin.

A week later I stopped the Canasten but what was just a dry exterior foreskin now was cracking and splitting about 10mm from the end of the froeskin when it was retracted.  Also it happens right around the circumference of the penis in a 5mm band.  I continued with moisturising cream and now with 'vaseline intensive care lotion' (this might be just an Australian product).

I am now having problems when the foreskin is healing and not retracted.  The dry flaky skin reappears and because it is not retracted the opening seems to shrink.  So when i get an erection and try to pull back my foreskin it is sore to pull back and again cracks and splits the skin.  however once it is pulled back it is comfortable and easily able to be pulled over the glans.  As I am afraid to let it heal while over the glans because i won't be able to pull it back, i am going to let it heal with the foreskin retracted.

Is this foreskin cracking/splitting common with blanitis or phimosis (but i have a higher pain threshold as it is just sore but I am ok at pulling back my foreskin) or am i having quite another problem with my foreskin?

I actually went back and used Canesten on the exterior of the foreskin twice daily for a week and the cracks and the tightness all went away.  So it was thrush after all and nothing else needed to be done...if it comes back it just means that it hasn't been treated thoughly enough
