Dear Mr. Young,
Your symptoms appear to be due to a disease known as
PeyronieCurvature of the penis's disease. It occurs in about 1% of men. It is not cancerous but causes
fibrousFibrous dysplasia plaque in the penis. Since the plaques are inelastic and can not expand during erection, that part of the penis gets curved.
The etiology of this condition is not clear. Several factors including minor trauma during intercourse, association with other excessive fibrous tissue diseases and diabetes has been implicated. This is a disease of middle age and usually presents with penile curvature and pain during erection and intercourse.
Treatment is usually symptomatic (medications and injections) until interference with intercourse or pain becomes incapacitating. At that time several surgical procedures are available which attempt to correct the deformity. However this condition at times is associated with impotence and patient may then require combined management for both curvature and impotence. You can find other posting from other men on this forum by using the site search function and searching the word Peyronie's.
