Perineum pain

Hello,

I am 24 years old male, 2 weeks ago i had a severe pain in the perineum, in the middle way btw the scrotum and the anus. It was not the fist time as i remember and usually it lasts for a minute or so. tonight while sleeping i had the same pain again.
There is nothing unusual in the perinum, like a lump or so.
Someone told me this can happen after sitting on biking seat for a long time but i dnt do biking, maybe i sit a lot in front of my pc at work.
What could this be? it is serious?

Thanx

For minor irritation, try a cortisone cream, or Preparation H, both applied externally.

I too am having pain in the perineum.  It happens when I sneeze and cough or jump down from slight elevation.  I visited a doctor and he referred me to a specialist.  The specialist told me to take a hot bath.  This is irritating to me because I have put off visiting the doctor for a couple of years (embarrassed).  Being examined is awkward but the pain is overwhelming and I need some answers.  Taking a hot bath is not the answer I was looking for.  I have never had any injuries or infections that could have caused this that I am aware of.  Should I see another doctor?  If so, what do I do when they don't have an answer?  Thanks.

Thanx a lot Rowena.
Actually, recently i had a small injury at the end of the rectum just before the anus and i was curing it through medication and diet, and till now, it seems it is cured. Maybe this has something to with the perineum pain (although before that injury i felt perineum pain also)...
I will try to see my Doc. as soon as i can and if u have something else to tell me i would be grateful.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi,

Prolonged pressure on the tissues of the perineum, such as in cycling, may indeed lead to perineum pain. However, there is no known link to prolonged sitting in the office not unless there is pressure involved. Are there other signs or symptoms present?  This could be due to infection, inflammation of the prostate or may involve rectal conditions. It would be best to see your doctor for proper evaluation and  management. Laboratory tests such as CBC, sedimentation rate, urinalysis and urine culture may be done. If prostatitis is suspected, a serum PSA may be ordered. An anoscopy and proctoscopy will help diagnose most rectal conditions. Referral to a urologist may be necessary in some cases. Take care and keep us posted.
