Hello,
I had a bladder suspension 6 years ago. I have been prone to UTI
I take macrobid qd as directed with sexual intercourse.
Over the past month i have been on 3 Rx's, Bactrum, Leviquin, and now septra. I still have have burning feeling that just goes up inside me when i have to urinate. I can cough, sneeze and laugh with out leakage. But lately when i have to urinate, i can not hold it no matter what i do. The urine just leaks out. Could frequent intercourse, or with manual stimulation cause a problem to my bladder. My PCP checked to see if my bladder was in place he said yes. I also have used a urine dip stick and it shows a lot of white blood cells, and a lot of protein. I have been drinking lots of water,cranbury juice and even taking cranberry pills. I am quite concerned about this because i do not want to have to go into another surgery. It was a very difficult one to deal with.
Could my boyfriend be hurting me, not intentionaly with the use of a vibrator, externally that is? I have had 3 children, all grown up in their 20's. Also had a hyst and rectal prolapse.
This is really starting to trouble me, due to the fact i am afraid i will be out and not get to a bathroom in time. Or i am constantly running to a bathroom, which produces pain with little urine. I would like to know your thoughts on this subject, basically could the uretha be desensitized for some reason. I don't know i am just reaching for answers.
My stomach is quite bloated, and some lower abd pain, as well as some slight back pain. Please try to help me understand what is going on, i am middle age not over 55 but over 49. Thank you for your help in this delicate matter.

Hello - thanks for asking your question.
Without examining you, I cannot say what is going on for sure. Here are some thoughts.
If the dip stick continues to have white cells, it is suggestive of recurrent UTIs. You may want to consider continuous antibiotics for 6 months to make sure that the infection is not causing your symptoms.
If there is no indication of infection, then there is a possibility of desiccation of the urethral and vaginal mucosa that is caused while going into the menopausal state. This is treated with estrogen creams.
Finally, if you have a history of rectal prolapse, it is possible that pelvic floor dysfunction can be contributing to the frequency. You may want to inquire about a urology referral to obtain urodynamic testing to evaluate this.
Followup with your personal physician is essential.
