Possible treatment for mild Peyronie's?

by John__0__0, May 11, 1998 12:00AM
I am 18 years old, with what I THINK is Peyronie's disease. There is a definite curvature of the penis when erect, and still noticeable when not erect. But, I have no trouble getting and maintaining erections, and there is no pain. Will doses of vitamin E help with this problem? Is there any truth to any sort of "exercise therapy?"

Dear John
Thanks for your question.
Curvature of the penis can also be due to corporeal disproportion . One side  of the penis is longer than the other.  This cause the penis to turn to one side.  The penis can have a rotational defect which can make the penis appear curved but is really straight.   Peyronnie’s disease is diagnosed by feeling a hard “plaque”  (calcified ) area of the penile shaft where the bend begins.  Plaque formation is usually the result of trauma but can be seen in patients with other connective tissue diseases like Dupytren’s contracture.
Treatment is only recommended for patients/ partners experiencing pain or impotence.  The only medicines with proven effect are administered in the form of an injection.  Exercises or vitamin E will not  help Peyronnie’s.
More individualized care is available at the Henry Ford Hospital and its urban campuses by calling  (1 800 653 6568). We can also arrange local accommodations through this number if this is your need. Please bring any physicians’ notes and lab test results that you  may be able to obtain. These will help us greatly.
