Post Hydrocele Surgery

Before I go back to my Urologist at Cornell Univ, I wanted to know a few things. My hydrocele was the size of a grapefruit and I had it for 20 years. It has been 3 weeks since surgery and my right testicle (the hydrocele) seems to be getting as large at is was before surgery, actually about 1/2 a grapefruit. It also feels hard. There are two stiches that have not melted. Is this normal? What questions should I ask next week when going back to DR.? It is also seeping a dot or two of blood, every day, although I clean it and use basitricin on the stiched incision.

The main complication for hydrocele repair is the formation of a hematoma, or blood clot. The risk of this is somewhat determined by the surgical technique used. It can also be brought on if the man is too active following the surgery. Infertility is the other potential risk.
I would ask about the formation of the blood clot. If you continue to have symptoms or feel a mass, a repeat scrotal ultrasound should be considered.
As for the stitches, depending on what kind were used, it can be variable as to when they fall off. If they continue to be present, it can be removed by your physician.
Followup with your personal physician is essential.
