Problems urinating after ejaculation

After I ejaculate, I generally can't urinate immediately afterward.  This normally isn't a huge problem, but sometimes my bladder goes crazy and I have to pee a lot.  A few times, I have had to pee really bad shortly after ejaculating.  In these cases, I waited a while, but I still couldn't pee at all; after suffering for quite a long time (around 30 min.-1hour), I was finally able to expel urine.  It seems the worse I have to pee, the longer I have to wait before I finally can.  

I have carried this fear around for a while of not being able to pee after ejaculation, and I fear it might interfere with my future sexual activities.  This fear is in part exacerbated by having a slight case of "shy bladder syndrome," and in part by having to urinate a lot more frequently now (I plan on seeing a doctor soon to see if I have a urinary tract infection or some other thing making me feel the urge to urinate so much... I wake up at least once a night, usually more, to pee.  I don't tend to expell that much urine either.)

Tough to say without examination.

One consideration would be evaluation of the prostate.  Any enlargement - whether by infection or benign hypertrophy - can lead to a change in urinary function.

I would consider a physician evaluation starting with a urinalysis and digital rectal exam.  This would be a reasonable starting point looking for infection as well as an enlarged prostate.

If negative, you can consider a cystoscopy to evaluate any anatomical abnormalities that can affect urinary flow.
