Prostate Problems??

Hi.  I am writing a question for my Dad.  He has had this problem probably going on close to 5 years now.  His symptoms are now as follows:  he has burning urination, pain in bladder area, on and off numbness sensation from the knees down, hemmorhoids.  He lives in St. Croix US Virgin Islands and there aren't many good doctors there.  He came to Miami, where I live a few years ago and went to a Urologist here.  He thought it might be a UTI.  The drugs he gave him didn't help at all and the symptoms never went away.  His prostate has been tested a couple times since then in St. Croix and they say it was ok.  Don't know what to do anymore.  My Mom is very upset and worried and that worries me.  They are leaving tomorrow, Sunday 01/20/2008 for San Juan for another Urologist appointment.  I am trying to do all I can, but it's hard being so far away.  Can you give me some information of what this could possibly be?  And also what you suggest he should do such as, what kind of doctor to see, etc.  I know you cannot diagnose him over the net, but I have no idea what else to do.  Just need some advice and help.  I don't want to lose my Dad as he is only 60.  Thanks for you time and effort.

Billy

it could be a chronic prostate infection, which often takes a much longer course of antibiotics, say, 3 weeks or more.  The urologist can figure it out.  i don't think that the mucous in his stool sounds like it has anything to do with it.

the numbness from the knees down would raise the concern of compressed discs in the low back.  see a neurosurgeon if his doctor confirms that there is loss of sensation, especially if weakness starts

good luck!
