Prostatis

I have been fighting an on-going bout with what has been deturmined to be Prostatis.
About 7 months ago it was originally thought to be a urinary infection and prescribed an antibotic (antibiotic) for a week long period, and the symptoms appeared to go away. A few days later the symptoms returned. Another 7 day round of antibotic (antibiotic) was prescribed, with the same result. A few days after the medicine is done, the symptoms return. The doctor then checked my prostate. When he just touched it, the pain was very sharp and decided it was now prostatis. He then prescribed a 30 day period of antibiotics. I do not recall the exact name, at this time, but it was called (Sulfer)something ?. I do recall, the dosage was a 500mg tablet twice a day. I ended up doing this 30 day routine twice because, once again, when I stop the medicine it comes back in a few days. I went to another doctor 3 1/2 months ago and he changed the medicine to Ciprofloxacin. I had been taking 500mg twice a day for 12 weeks straight, and the symptoms again appeared to be gone. But once again, when this ended, the symptoms came back in less than a week. I am now back on another 30 day round of Ciprofloxacin, that I started 8 days ago, and the pain is starting to go away again. The best I can tell, the Ciprofloxacin is the medicine of choice. The treatment time, from what I have read can be 4-12 weeks, being it is difficult to treat, as I am finding out. But I suspect this will be back again after the 30 day round.
I have had a PSA test, and several urine, and culture tests, all normal. I am trying to deturmine if there is any other treatments that may be more successful, or any other ideas. In every case the treatments appear to be somewhat effective, but I have yet to be rid of this completely.

You certainly have been treated with extended periods of antibiotics.  One consideration would be to be evaluated for any sign of prostate abscesses.  If present, no amount of antibiotic would be able to take care of this.

The test to consider would be a transrectal ultrasound, which can image the prostate.  If there is evidence of an abscess, it would have to be drained.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
