Prostatitis and transmission

I am 50 year old man and I have over a number of recurrent urinary tact infections. symptoms mainly  frequency, burning and tingling and redness at the tip of the penis and cloudy urine. I wnet through many tests about 7 years ago and since many courses of antibiotics, the last being minocin.
Mainly my symptoms would become active after intercourse and last for over a week. However my wife died 3 years ago and i abstained from sex for 2 and half years after her death. She never complained of any symptoms.
About 4 months ago I met a lady I started having unprotected sex with . After a few weeks my old symptoms began to appear and also she began having problems. We decided to go  a clinic and get tested for std`s. All my results were clear, negative for Syphilyss, Gonnerhea. Chlamydia, Trich. I decided to have a second lot of tests done again, all clear except the urine test returned a high number white cells which the doctor said was the sign of some kind of infection. My partner tested negative for everything but was positive for bacterial vaginitis. She blames me rightly or wrongly for her condition and our relationship is now under severe strain and probaly won`t survive. She is receiving treatment for BV at present.

The doctor I attended has put be on a course of doxycycline for 7 days. I am in the seventh day of the treatment but today I noticed that the cloudy urine was still there.

I am finding very difficult to understand all of this. When I attended the urologist a number of years ago he assured me that there was no need to have my wife treated and she never received any treatment.

What is the next step here for me? I think I have reached the end of my tether on this. Am i responsible for my girls friends condition. Is it likely that i passed on this infection to her? If she is successfully treated and we have sex again is it likely she will have this infection and symptoms again?

It is difficult to say without knowing what kind of vaginosis she has.  Trichomonas can certainly be transmitted between partners.  However, other types of vaginosis are unlikely to be transmitted.  Given that you were negative for trichomonas, that scenario is less likely.

I would evaluate the prostate for any chronic infection or abscess.  A transrectal ultrasound can be considered to image the prostate for the latter possibility.  It may be possible for untreated, or partially treated, prostatitis to transmit bacteria.
