Prostatitis/balanitis?

by patbateman, May 24, 2009 06:39PM
I had a chlamydia infection about a year ago that was treated with doxycycline.

Ever since, I have have been having two chronic problems that reoccur often: balanitis, and what I believe to be prostatitis.

Every two weeks or so, I'll get an unexplained fever and feel sick for about a day. This is usually followed by several days of testicular pain and pain around my groin. It's often accompanied by a feelin of clenching or tightness in my prostate.

At the same time, the fairly persistent chronic balanitis gets worse. Usually this lasts for a couple of days before getting somewhat better, only to repeat all over again.

I can't seem to get anyone to take the problem seriously. Somewhat unfortunately while all this was going on I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's and had to undergo surgery for possible thyroid cancer (thankfully the nodules were benign). I have seen a dermatologist to attempt to treat the balanitis, but not much luck with topical creams. I've also seen a urologist, but all he did was send me for a cystoscopy and then refuse to see me for a followup (even though a cystoscopy is not diagnostic for chronic prostatitis!)

Am I going crazy, or does this sound like prostatitis? It's seriously affecting my quality of life... I'm young, only 22, but I have constant pain in my groin and some difficult getting an erection. Sex is uncomfortable and I try to avoid it.

What do I do?

Hello,
Your symptoms are suggestive of prostatitis. It is an inflammation of the prostate gland. From your symptoms,it can be due to acute prostatitis.

You will need ultrasound, X-ray, and computerized tomography (CT) along with prostatic fluid examination along with prostate specific antigen to confirm the diagnosis.Pls take a second opinion from a urologist.

I hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional doubts.Kind regards.

I have similar problems but I get a constant tingle/burning sensation that has been going on now for nearly 10 weeks!it goes when I need a pee but when I have finished the burning starts again, can this also cause your lympth nodes to feel tender at all?

Many thanks in advance
