Prostatitis or STD?

Dec 2007 - Had unprotected sex with a sex worker.
-2 days later had lower abdominal pain
-Same week - Tested for Chlam, Gon, HIV, Herp, Hep, etc - all negative
Went to my PCP, Urinalysis came back clean. Prescribed Cipro for 3 days.

Note: No discharge, burning, itching, etc.

Abdominal pain went away, began aching in my right groin and base of penis/scrotum on the right. Pretty constant ache...also aching in appendix area simultaneously.

Eventually began aching in left and right groin and base of penis occasionallt...basically the whole pubic area.

Began feeling pain traveling up the groin to my hips, as well as down to my perineum.

Lower back pain as well.

March 2008 - Tested for all STD's again - all negative.

-in-office urine dip-stick test. nothing detected. Doc did a digital rectal exam and said my prostate felt fine.

The pain continues to this day.

YESTERDAY, noticed a white-ish discharge...it continues today along with urethral itching and slight burning when urinating.

Went and got STD test again today, waiting for results.

Could this be an STD that hasn't presented itself as a discharge for all this time and my STD tests were false negatives?

I suppose I could have contracted something...I've had a couple unprotected oral encounters recently.

Or could this be prostatitis? The symptoms do seem to point to that (I've had some ocassional rectal pressure/pain).

I scheduled an appt with a Urologist but its not for 2 weeks.

Went to the Urologist for a 6-week checkup today. Saw a different doctor (mine was out) and he did a prostate exam and said the prostate felt fine. He didnt think the Doxycycline was doing anything to help so he said to discontinue. He put me on Flomax and Advil for 6 weeks...so I will check in then.

6 weeks into Doxycycline treatment. Still experiencing groin/perineal pain. It has improved a little...but has remained the same for about a month now. Checkup scheduled with Urologist today.

One week into treatment. Taking the Doxycyline twice a day. Discharge cleared up pretty quickly...still some urethral soreness but seems to be getting better.

No improvement of groin pain. Hope this starts feeling better:(

Aside from the medication prescribed, exercise, sitz bath and prostate massage can improve symptoms of prostatitis in some men. Lifestyle changes like drinking plenty of water, limiting or avoiding alcohol, caffeine and spicy foods and even urinating at regular intervals may also help.

Saw the urologist today. He checked my testicles and bladder as well as prostate. He believes it is prostatitis. Prescribed 6 weeks of Doxycycline.

He also mentioned my urine stream is weaker than average which may have brought this all on. Just something to keep an eye on I guess.

That's great! This is definitely a good sign and no doubt erase all worries of infection. Do not  forget to bring your results with the urologist on Monday. Good luck.

Update:

Test results are Negative for Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Herpes, HIV, Syphilis

This is the 3rd test that has shown me negative for the above diseases. I gave my urine sample while I was experiencing the discharge, so I'm positive they got a good sample.

Appointment with urologist got bumped up to Monday.

How are you? the presence of urethral itching,  burning when urinating and specially discharge may point to STD. Prostatitis, on the other hand, presents with frequent urge to urinate, difficulty urinating, pain or burning during urination, chills and fever or on and off pain in the abdomen. Let us wait for the test results and your appointment with the urologist. Take care and keep us posted.
