Prostatitis

Hi,
I'm a 39 year old male and I've just been diagnosed with chronic prostatitis after seeing three doctors, thinking I'd got an STD and suffering 3.5 months of pain in my right testicle, frequent urination and feeling generally down. I didn't think this was something that people my age suffered with.
I've been prescribed Ciprofloxacin 500mg twice a day for 6 weeks. The side effects look a bit scary and I'd really appreciate hearing about anyones experiences about this illness and its treatment. I can't work out why I suddenly got it for a start!? Also how long is it likely to go on for?
thanks

Unfortunately prostatitis is very difficult to cure (if not impossible :/).
Look at http://prostate-forum.org site, there are a lot of sufferers posting their experiences with different kinds of treatments
